Time Change, No Name Change

Hey everyone!

I hope you are having a great week.  Three things I want you to be aware of going into the weekend.

1.Time change happens this Sunday. You know the drill, plan for one less hour of sleep, but a lot more daylight the next few months.

2.You may have noticed from social media that I successfully defended my dissertation, and earned my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree. This would not have happened without the support of CIL. I am so grateful to you for letting me and my family accomplish this.

Doctorate

So what do I want you to call me now?  Unless you are taking one of my classes, there is no need to call me Dr. Allison. I do not believe in the term Reverend, as the Trinity is the only one to be revered. According to the Bible, in a congregation, I should simply be called Aaron.  However, if you choose to call me Pastor, there is not a greater privilege I could imagine.

3.I am preaching this week from Genesis 12:1-4 on “Walking in God’s Purpose.” Who doesn’t need to hear a message of this importance? Who do you know that needs this message?  Invite them to CIL, and we will all grow in love this Sunday.
I love being your pastor!

Hey everyone!
Last weekend our youth had a great time on The Lift retreat.  I am so thankful that our entire church got behind this event, opening homes for students to stay in, and providing meals through 242 Groups working together to cook and serve.  God is doing a great work in our youth ministry, and I am so thankful for a church that loves teenagers!
This weekend is the Alpha retreat.  For the last few Mondays, we have had people coming to CIL to learn more about Christianity through the Alpha course.  This group of 30 is going to the Scarritt-Bennett Center on Vanderbilt’s campus this weekend to learn more about the Holy Spirit.  Pray with me that this would be a life-changing experience for these Alpha participants.
For those age 55 and over, the Take 2 group is meeting at Top Hog BBQ in Gallatin (642 Blythe Ave) at 11am this Saturday.  Bring your cash (they don’t take cards) and appetite.
Love you guys, and I am excited about our future!

BizWise Comes to CIL Starting March 9
Be a better leader at your company, in your social circles, at church and with your family.
Can you be a better leader at your company, in your social circles, at church and with your family? Probably. There have been libraries of books written about leadership. “Seven Qualities for This,” “100 Reasons for That,” “Guaranteed Success If… (fill in the blank).” How do you sift through the onslaught of books, blogs, webinars and conferences to find the real gems that might actually be useful in your life?

How about some help?
You are invited to BizWise, an initiative of CIL member Paul Jackson in cooperation with CIL. No dues, no subscriptions, no sales pitch; just biweekly gatherings where Paul will lead a discussion based on a carefully selected book, blog, video or article from a noted Christian leader and how (or if) the topic can be applied in the participants’ lives. Paul has worked with nationally known Christian leaders and has started and managed both for-profit and non-profit businesses. The discussions will be most relevant for men and women who are business leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs. BizWise is not a Bible study group per se, but participants will consider scripture resources for wisdom and guiding principles in their discussions. Topics will be published in advance for a given semester so participants can anticipate the discussion topics for each gathering. All sources for the discussion topics will be posted on a BizWise blog so that participants can delve more deeply into the material if it is helpful and post comments.
BizWise gatherings will initially be held at CIL every other Thursday at 6:30 pm beginning March 9. Non-CIL members/attendees are also welcome. A light food service will be provided. The initial discussion will be presented in a TedTalk style of no more than 15 minutes. Discussion will follow about how applying the topic could help become better leaders in the participants’ individual life situations. Here are the topics for the gatherings this spring.
