Aaron’s Wednesday Class starts August 20th

christian growthTonight (August 20) I am starting my Wednesday Christian Growth class that corresponds with the Awana schedule. The class starts at 6:30 p.m., which gives those with kids plenty of time to check their kids in for Awana’s 6:00 p.m. start, and grab a cup of coffee in the lobby before our class starts. This staggered schedule also allows volunteers to be “listeners” for Awana from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m., and still participate in my class. The Christian Growth class  is an exciting hour for me, as I love the discussion that happens around Biblical concepts. Most weeks, we follow an outline from Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology book. However, you never know what subject will pop up each time, as issues related to social life in America, events in modern Israel, theological traditions and church history often dominate our discussion. If you want to grow, this class is for you. Also, the Financial Peace video class with Dave Ramsey will be starting at 6:00 p.m. This class gives you the advantage of free childcare provided at the church.

Awana starts August 13th

AwanasOne of the most daunting, and sobering, aspects of parenthood is being responsible for the spiritual development of this little person you’ve brought into the world.  It’s no surprise that adults who were perhaps sporadic in attending to matters of faith decide that being involved in a community of faith is an important part of life when children are born.

At CIL we are committed to being a resource and a partner for parents as they determine how best to guide their children’s spiritual development.  We can’t take your place, but we count it a privilege to walk with you.

AWANA is a primary component in that partnership.  This Wednesday night program presents the gospel in every lesson, helps kids learn scripture, gives them a chance to serve others and offers them encouragement and mentoring  from adult volunteers.

David, in one of his psalms, wrote, “I have hidden your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”  The words of God, planted and nourished deep in our hearts, affect the way we see the world, the way we evaluate situations, and the way we make choices.  Isn’t that what we most desire for our children?

AWANA enrollment for children ages 3 through 5th grade is this Sunday morning (August 10th).  The fall semester begins Wednesday, August 13th.  Classes meet from 6:00 until 7:30.  We’d love for your children to be part of what God is doing in the hearts of our kids.

If you’d like to be part of the AWANA team, see Ed or Andrea Ahlmeyer at the AWANA registration table. It’s an investment with eternal value!

A Message About Water Baptist

A wedding ring is an outward sign that a person is married.

A military uniform is an outward sign that a person is involved in that particular branch of service.

Similarly, water baptism is a symbol designed by God to identify a person as a disciple of Jesus.

We are going to celebrate at CIL water baptism on Sunday, August 3.

Jesus revealed that water baptism was necessary to “fulfill all righteousness (Mt. 3:15).” This doesn’t mean water baptism saves us, but if we refuse to be baptized in water their is something incomplete in our walk with Christ.

Water baptism is an act that God requires of every believer.   You never read of an un-baptized Christian anywhere in the Bible. In fact, baptism immediately followed a person’s salvation. They didn’t see it as something to be delayed or put off.

Ultimately, it all goes back to Jesus’ statement in John 14:15. “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
